Li-ion micro-batteries made-up using only solid-state materials by a thin-film process have recently become a topic of widespread research for use in low power applications. Novel mesoporous nanocrystalline architectures thin films such as Li4Ti5O12 (anode) and LiFePO4 (cathode) and solid electrolytes such as hybrid organic-inorganic materials or inorganic garnet electrolytes are being synthesized by sol-gel and then optimized and characterized. Homemade microbatteries with all-solid-state components with a high rate capability and cyclic stability are developed. Now our work is focused on the development of conversion anodes for Na-ion batteries and carbon free cathodes for metal-air batteries.
