The design and development of new mesoporous and meso-structured materials showing a periodic distribution of pores of uniform size has become one of the most dynamic fields for the preparation of photocatalytic and/or biocides coatings. The porosity structure is essential in the design and performance of the nanoscaled materials. The appropriate directionality of the porosity appears as a key. On the other hand, the design and development of new hybrid fluoroalkylsilane sol-gel coatings on glass substrates for usage at high temperature has become one of the most suitable coatings with anti-stick and easy-to-clean properties. Finally, the use of the sol-gel process to repair defect of car windshields surface and solar panels produced by sandstorms by the deposition of thin transparent sol-gel layers is good alternative.
